Albert Dock, Liverpool

Albert Dock, Liverpool

Dating from 1846 and designed by Jesse Hartley, the Albert Dock in Liverpool was the first warehouse in the world to be built entirely from non-combustible materials - cast iron, brick, stone and concrete with no structural timber. It was also designed so that goods could be loaded directly to and from the ships and the warehouse.
